In a tragic incident, at least four persons were killed and ten others sustained injuries after a van in which they were travelling and a truck collided head-on on NH-55 near Katada under Jarpada police limits in Odisha’s Angul district late last night.
The deceased have beenidentified as Dharani Pradhan, Sibaram Sahu, Arun Sahu and Binaya Sahu, allhailing from Balisahi area in the district.
As per the report, the mishap took place at around 2 am in the night while a group of 14 pilgrims were returning home after a trip to Koraput. Near Katada on the highway driver of a speeding vegetable-laden truck which was coming from the opposite direction failed the see the van due to low visibility and ended up hitting it from the spot.
Two of theinjured were later shifted SCB Medical in Cuttack due to deteriorating condition.
Police have seized the mangled vehicle and started investigation into the mishap.
