Naveen announces 33% reservation for women in Lok Sabha polls from BJD

In a bid to empower the women of the State further, Odisha Chief Minister and BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik made a major announcement at Mission Shakti convention in Kendrapara District of Odisha said that Odisha will send 33 per cent women to parliament in coming election.

Addressing the gathering of Self Help Groups, he said, “I would like to announce here at Kendrapada, the ‘karma bhumi’ of legendary Biju Babu, that Odisha will send 33 per cent women to parliament in coming election.

Notably In 2012, your government had made 33 percent reservation for women in Panchayatiraj institutions. In a first, the state government last year had passed a resolution on 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament and Assembly. I had sent a proposal to all the political parties and chief ministers in this regard. I announce from the historic land of Kendrapara that 33 percent women will represent Odisha in Parliament. Odisha will show the nation the way towards women empowerment. This announcement will create history across the nation,” Patnaik said in his address to the huge gathering.

Around 2 lakh women from Self Help Groups (SHGs) had congregated at Siddha Mahapurusha Ground located in Baro village under Kendrapara tehsil.
