Custodial Death-Tension erupted after Detainee Found Hanging In Rajgangpur Jail in Odisha’s Sundergarh

Sundergarh:Tension prevailed at the Rajgangpur Police Station last night after a detainee was found hanging inside its latrine and his family members alleged it to be a ‘custodial death’.

The deceased has been identified as Jai Lakra (30), a resident of Raikakchhar village near Kurumu area.

As per Reports Lakra was detained by the police for questioning over allegations of duping several persons to the tune of Rs 10 lakh after collecting money from them on the pretext of depositing the amount in bank.

 

Lakra, who was running a bank assistance centre in the village was picked up by Rajgangpur Police on December 1 for questioning, after a local charged him of defrauding cash from him. The complainant alleged that Lakra took away money from him on the pretext of depositing in the bank account but didn’t do so

 

However, his body was found hanging in the bathroom around 8 PM yesterday.

“Probe into the incident is underway and further steps will be taken after receiving post mortem report. Seventeen platoons of police force have been deployed in the town to prevent any untoward situation,” said DIG (Western Range) Kavita Jalan.

DIG Jalan also said the deceased’s family members were not co operating in investigation and also didn’t sign the Post Mortem papers
