Man-eater tigress Sundari Tranquilized by Odisha forest officials

Angul:In a much awaited relief of Villagers living in the Satkosia sanctuary and its periphery in Odisha’s Angul district of Odisha

After over two weeks of operation, the team of experts today finally tranquilized Royal Bengal tigress Sundari near Majhipada village under Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Angul district.

On whether sundari will be sent to Nandankanan Zoo,   those decision will be taken as NTCA and WII Advice said Dr  Sandeep Tripathy Chief Wild Life Warden of Odisha

He said that as decided the tigress would be taken to Raiguda and kept inside the enclosure where she was kept earlier after being brought from the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh.

“The expert team of the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) will study the behaviour of the tigress inside the enclosure,” he added.

Forest officials have blocked the road near Pampasar to avoid disruption by villagers during the shifting of the tigress.

The State Forest Department had decided to tranquilise the tigress Sundari after two persons were allegedly attacked and killed near the Satakosia Tiger Reserve.

On June 28, the tigress was brought to Satkosia wildlife sanctuary from Madhya Pradesh’s Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve as to increase the big cat population in Odisha.

However, Satkosia witnessed violence by local residents after Sundari allegedly killed two locals including a woman.
