Retrenched Labourers Stage Protest Demanding Reinstatement to Jobs In Adani Wilmar

Paradip:Retrenched labourers of Cargill India Company in Paradip today staged protest outside the company demanding reinstatement to their jobs.

Notably Cargill refinery plant, which was set up in 2004, had employed hundreds of workers. However, the company shut down its operations in 2006 citing transport-related issues.

Though a few months back the Cargill refinery was taken over by Adani Wilmar Ltd, the retrenched workers were not reinstated. In the meantime, they lodged complaints before the Jagatsinghpur district collector and apprised company officials about the issue.

Despite repeated appeals no steps have been taken yet to reinstate their jobs, said Nandlal Singh Vice President,Cargill Shramik Sangh.

As no one paid heeds to their demands, the workers staged protest despite prohibitory orders clamped under Section 144.

“We will continue to protest here along with our family members till our demands are not met,” Said one of the retrenched labourers

Keeping the tensed situation in view, the district administration has deployed five platoons of police at the spot.

On the other hand, company officials have not issued any official statement on the issue yet.
