Titli’ crosses Odisha coast’, uproots trees, damages houses; communication hit,rainfall likely across state till Oct 12

Gajpati/Ganjam:Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘TITLI’, which crossed Odisha coast early this morning, damaged many thatched and asbestos houses in some coastal parts of the state. Gale wind also uprooted huge trees at many places disrupting vehicular movements. Titli has made landfall at Palasa in Andhra Pradesh very close to Gopalpur in Ganjam district of Odisha at around 5.30am. As the eye of the storm passed through Palasa the maximum wind speed recorded was 126 km per hour.

Roads in Paralakhemundi, Kashinagar, Mohana and Gosani were severely damaged resulting in disruption of vehicular movement in the areas, the SRC said, adding that there were no reports of fatalities.

Uprooting of trees were reported on Gopalpur-Berhampur road which affected communication in the route. The situation was similar in Berhampur town where more than 100 trees were uprooted.

Effect of the landfall of the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm was also largely felt in Bhanjanagar and Aska. Many street lights and electric poles got uprooted in Gopalpur as well.

Cyclone Titli wreaked havoc in Gajapati District ,Gopalpur  and Berhampur(Ganjam District) ahead of its landfall in Odisha today.

Many trees and utility poles were uprooted during the landfall process of Cyclone Titli. Besides, asbestos of many houses were also seen blown away by the menacing winds.

Road communication between Berhampur and Kanamunda has been disrupted as trees have been uprooted and fallen on the road at many places. However, ODRAF teams are on the spot to clear the route.

The worst part of the cyclone Titli is over and its now gradually weakening but under its impact rainfall would continue at several coastal districts of Odisha.
