Wanted Woman Maoist Shanti Carrying Rs 4 Lakh Reward Surrenders In Malkangiri

Malkangiri: In a success to police in Maoist infested Malkangiri district a woman cadre Maoist carrying Rs 4 lakh reward on her head surrendered on Monday

Identified as Debe Madhi alias Shanti, the surrendered Red rebel was active in Kalimela Area Committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) group. She laid down her arms to Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena with an intension to return to normal life.

Debe, who joined the Maoist organization in 2008 is involved in a number of cases including attack on policemen, arson and murder.

She will receive monetary assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation scheme of the State Government. She will also get financial assistance for house, studies and training in a trade or vocation of her liking.

Shanti had joined the Maoist organisation in 2008. Several cases, including those of arson, murder and exchange of fire with police, are pending against her at various police stations in the district.

In her reaction to media after surrender, the woman Maoist informed that construction of Gurupriaya Bridge and establishment of Jantapayi camp by security forces compelled her to shun violence. However she also maintained that, various developmental projects undertaken in the district by State Government also impressed her to take the step
