A 32-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men in the Chandikhole area in Jajpur district of Odisha, police said on Sunday.
The two accused were taken into custody on Saturday following a formal complaint was lodged by the woman at the Kalinga Nagar police station on Wednesday night.
According to a police officer, the crime took place on Tuesday evening after one of the accused, an acquaintance of the victim, called her over phone and made a false claim that her husband had fallen ill, a police officer said.
Anxious about her husband’s health, the woman took a bus to Chandikhole around 7 PM. Upon her arrival, the accused reportedly took her to an abandoned bungalow, where he was soon joined by his accomplice, the officer said.
Both men reportedly consumed alcohol and allegedly sexually assaulted the woman later that evening, the official stated.
The survivor is currently undergoing treatment at the Sukinda Community Health Centre.
A police unit conducted raids across the Badachana and Jenapur areas of the district, and apprehended both suspects, according to Kalinganagar Additional SP Suprasanna Mallick.
Mallick confirmed that both men confessed to the crime during police questioning.
The duo was presented before a local court on Saturday, which remanded them to 14 days of judicial custody.
