India successfully test-fired the intermediate-range ballistic missile ‘Agni 5’ from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, off the Odisha coast, on Wednesday, August 20, marking a significant advancement in the country’s strategic defence capabilities.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the launch validated all operational and technical parameters.
It was carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command, it added.
Agni-5, one of India’s most advanced long-range missiles, was tested as part of routine user trials to ensure the system’s readiness, the defence officials said.
Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Agni-5 has a range of over 5,000 kilometres and is equipped with modern navigation, guidance, warhead, and propulsion technologies, which strengthens India’s nuclear deterrence.
