Odisha’s Commerce and Transport Minister, B B Jena, visited the emergency crash landing site on Monday and checked on the recovery of the injured passengers and pilots currently hospitalised in Rourkela.

The incident occurred on January 10 in Sundargarh district, when a nine-seater India One aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing near Rourkela, resulting in injuries to six individuals, including two pilots.

“On the instruction of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, I visited the accident site and met the injured pilots and passengers in Rourkela. It is a rare aircraft crash where no one died,” Jena said after returning from Rourkela.

The Minister noted that while the aircraft’s nose section was destroyed and an 11-kV power line was severed during the impact, the skill of the two pilots was instrumental in ensuring the passengers’ survival.

The Minister also lauded the local people who immediately rescued the six injured persons from the aircraft. “I can claim that the state government has the blessings of God for which no loss of life was reported in such a tragic aircraft crash,” he added.

He further informed that while two passengers chose to airlift to Mumbai for further treatment, the remaining four—including both pilots—are being treated at a private hospital in Rourkela.

All passengers and pilots are “now stable”, the minister said.
