Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi characterised the state budget as more than a simple ledger of income and expenditure, defining it instead as a robust roadmap for holistic development and the fulfilment of every citizen’s aspirations.
Inaugurating the “Ama Janiba, Ama Budget” awareness initiative on Tuesday, Chief Minister Majhi emphasised that the state’s objectives are aligned with the national vision for 2047.
The government has set ambitious milestones for this period, including boosting per capita income from Rs 1.8 lakh to Rs 32 lakh, significantly improving the quality of life, and slashing multidimensional poverty to a mere 5 per cent.
Additional human development goals include raising women’s workforce participation to 70 per cent, extending life expectancy to over 80 years, and completely eradicating malnutrition and anaemia.
The Chief Minister also said the 2026–27 state budget will act as a strong foundation for achieving the vision of a “Prosperous Odisha”.
This year’s budget introduced 31 new initiatives, including several programmes and schemes.
A total outlay of Rs 3.10 lakh crore has been proposed, with a strong focus on capital expenditure. This year’s allocation marks a 7 per cent increase over the previous year’s estimates.
The state government has set a target to transform Odisha into a $500 billion economy by 2036 and a $1.5 trillion economy by 2047.

He asserted that while the goal may seem ambitious, the people of Odisha have the capability to achieve it with the blessings of Lord Jagannath.
Specific provisions have been integrated into the 2026-27 budget to bolster rural development, stimulate job creation, and mitigate migration challenges. To foster wider public participation and awareness, the budget awareness campaign will be conducted state-wide from April 1 to 14.
Chief Minister Majhi said that the budget reflects Odisha’s pride and prosperity and, with collective efforts, will transform the state into a major economic powerhouse of the country.
