A tourist bus driver lost his life, and at least 20 passengers sustained injuries on Sunday when the vehicle crashed into a road divider on National Highway-16 at Soro in Odisha’s Balasore district, local police said.
The vehicle, which was transporting approximately 45 travellers, was making its way back to Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh from Kolkata when the fatal mishap occurred.
Upon receiving the alert, teams from the local police and fire services rushed to the crash site to execute emergency rescue operations and pull passengers from the damaged bus.
Police have identified the deceased driver as 54-year-old K. Venketeswar, while those injured have been shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
The district administration has contacted the Andhra Pradesh administration for the safe return of the surviving passengers.
