A Bhubaneswar court on Wednesday sentenced 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to a man convicted of killing his wife over dowry demands, an advocate involved in the case said.
Third Additional District and Sessions Judge Himansu Sekhar Mallick delivered the judgment following the examination of testimony from 11 witnesses and 11 documentary exhibits.
The court also fined the convict, Priyabrata Mishra, Rs 20,000. Failure to clear the fine will result in an additional six months of imprisonment, the government counsel stated.
As per the prosecution’s case, Mishra murdered his wife, Kadambini, in December 2021 within the jurisdiction of the Lingaraj police station in Bhubaneswar over demands for dowry.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, a case of dowry-related murder was registered at the Mahila police station in Bhubaneswar.
Upon completing the investigation, police apprehended Mishra and presented him before the court for trial.
