Bhubaneswar is significantly expanding its surveillance network by adding 1,500 new AI-enabled CCTV cameras across strategic locations in the capital city of Odisha.

With the latest addition, the number of CCTV networks in the city will increase to a total of 3,300 cameras, supplementing the 1,800 already in operation.

Thirumala Naik, the managing director of BSCL, announced that a tender has been issued for the installation and maintenance of the cameras, which will be managed by the selected agency for seven years.

He stated that the exact locations for the installation of the new cameras are still being finalised. Naik further explained that the new cameras will be connected to an intelligent command and control center, where trained staff will monitor the surveillance feeds. He also highlighted that the cameras will be equipped with advanced AI capabilities.

Key features of the AI-enabled CCTV cameras:

– Advanced AI capabilities: Equipped with facial recognition technology and behaviour analysis to detect suspicious activities

– Traffic regulation: Designed to detect traffic violations, including riding without helmets, driving on the wrong side, and ignoring red lights

– Intelligent command center: Integrated with a control center where trained operators will monitor surveillance feeds

– Data-driven insights: Providing valuable data for urban planning and traffic management
