Over 1.76 lakh families in Odisha have participated in the online self-enumeration process for Census-2027, a senior officer informed on Monday.

The digital portal (se.census.gov.in) opened on April 1 and is scheduled to close at midnight on April 15.

Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, the Director of Census Operations in Odisha, reported that 1.76 lakh households have successfully utilised the digital platform so far.

With only a short window remaining, Kalyan urged citizens who have not yet participated in the self-enumeration process to do so within the next two days.

Preparations are now largely finalised for the first phase, known as House listing Operations (HLO), which will run across all 30 districts of the state from April 16 to May 15.

According to the Census Director, district collectors and municipal commissioners are acting as principal Census officers, with additional district magistrates (ADMs) serving as district Census officers.

Furthermore, under the guidance of district collectors, tahsildars and executive officers of urban local bodies have been designated as charge officers for their respective areas, he said.

The Revenue and Disaster Management Department of Odisha is the nodal agency for the initiative. Primary school teachers from the state’s School and Mass Education Department will be deployed as enumerators, while high school teachers will oversee the process as supervisors.

These trained enumerators will go door to door to collect data for the house listing and housing census programme through a mobile app.

Enumerators will present 33 questions from the Ministry of Home Affairs to household heads, covering various structures including residences, jails, and malls. Data provided during the self-enumeration phase will also undergo re-verification by these officers.

The director formally launched the song dedicated to the Census.

The second phase, or the primary population enumeration phase, will be carried out from February 9 to February 28, 2027, he said.
