The Khurda district administration has imposed prohibitory orders after a violent clash erupted between residents of two villages over a long-standing boundary dispute, officials said on Thursday.
The conflict occurred between the villagers of Ostapur and Kotapalla, located under the Baghamari police station limits in Khurda district, on Wednesday night.
According to police, the violence began after a heated argument, reportedly triggered by the installation of a signboard meant to mark the border between the two communities.
During the clash, three to four roadside shops were gutted, and several people sustained injuries.
To restore peace, the local administration invoked prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), officials said.
As per an order issued by Khurda Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Saphalya Mandita Pradhan, the restrictions have been imposed from Hanuman Batika to Barika Pokhari in the Ostapur-Kotapalla area.
Residents of the two villages have been directed to keep shops closed and avoid public assembly until further notice.
In August, prohibitory orders were imposed in the same area after a similar incident of violence.
Around 30 police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order situation, officials said.
