Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday disbursed over Rs 838 crore to 41.68 lakh farmers, marking the fourth instalment of the CM Kisan Yojana.
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo, who is also in charge of the Agriculture and Farmer Empowerment Department, CM Majhi distributed the funds during the state-level Krushak Divas 2026 event held at the Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI) in Cuttack.
The state observes Krushak Divas on ‘Akshaya Tritiya,’ an agrarian festival celebrated across Odisha.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that each beneficiary of CM-Kisan – comprised largely of small and marginal farmers—received Rs 2,000 to assist with expenses for the upcoming Kharif crop season.
Of the 4,168,582 total beneficiaries, he specified that 41,049 are landless, 3,292 are tribal farmers, and the remaining 4,124,241 are classified as small and marginal farmers.
“The financial assistance given under the CM-Kisan today will help small and marginal farmers to procure seeds and fertilisers,” the chief minister said.
Under the CM Kisan Yojana, eligible farmers throughout Odisha receive Rs 4,000 annually, divided into two instalments – one during Akshaya Tritiya and the second during Nuakhai.
“The farmers in Odisha get Rs 10,000 financial assistance per annum — Rs 4,000 under CM Kisan and Rs 6,000 under PM-Kisan,” Majhi said.
To mark the auspicious start of the paddy sowing season on Akshaya Tritiya, both CM Majhi and Deputy CM Deo performed the symbolic ‘Akhi Muthi Anukula’ ritual, which involves sowing the first paddy seeds.
In a social media post, Majhi said, “Our government remains steadfastly committed to the holistic prosperity of the state’s ‘annadata’ (food providers) and to energising the agricultural economy. We are today initiating the direct transfer of financial assistance amounts under the CM-Kisan scheme for Kharif-2026.”
The chief minister ascertained that the growth rate in the agriculture sector in Odisha has reached 5.3 per cent, much higher than the national average of 4.4 per cent.

Akshaya Tritiya holds profound cultural significance, as it traditionally marks the commencement of the paddy cultivation season.
During the ‘Akhi Muthi’ ritual, farmers offer prayers and symbolically sow a fistful (muthi) of specially selected rice seeds, seeking divine blessings for a bountiful harvest.
