Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday significantly bolstered the state’s security infrastructure by inaugurating a state-of-the-art counter-terrorism training complex and a new training and briefing centre for the Special Operations Group (SOG) at Chandaka.

These facilities are designed to enhance the operational capabilities of Odisha’s elite anti-Maoist force.

CM Majhi also inaugurated 16 police stations, 70 police quarters, barracks, armouries, office and administrative buildings in 16 districts.

Majhi said the new training and briefing centre of the SOG will enable training of up to 400 personnel at a time.

During the event, Majhi lauded the SOG’s pivotal role in anti-Naxal operations and reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to dismantling organizations and individuals that resort to violence.

Addressing the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) issue, the CM urged Maoists to surrender and join the mainstream society to contribute to the state’s development. He expressed confidence that Odisha would meet the central government’s goal of eradicating Naxalism by March 2026, citing the recent surrender of 22 Maoists in Malkangiri as a positive milestone.

Majhi also announced risk allowance for the personnel of SOG and other anti-Naxal agencies.

“From December, SOG officers directly involved in anti-Naxal operations will get a maximum allowance of Rs 25,000 per month,” Majhi said.

Officers directly engaged in operations will receive a maximum allowance of Rs 25,000 per month. The scale includes Rs 24,000 for subedars and deputy subedars, Rs 20,000 for havildars, and Rs 16,000 for constables and sepoys, respectively.

Furthermore, employees of SOG, Anti-Extremist Training (AET), and Reinforcement Centres (RC) not directly in the field will receive up to Rs 12,000 per month. Allowances were also cleared for the District Volunteer Force (DVF) at a maximum monthly of Rs 10,000 and the Special Intelligence Wing (SIW) at Rs 20,000 per month, the CM said.

The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s broader security initiatives, including the establishment of three Odisha Special Striking Force (OSSF) battalions, three Industrial Security Force (OISF) battalions, and 10 new ODRAF units.

He also noted the creation of a Traffic and Road Safety Wing, 21 Cyber and Economic Offences police stations, and a new police district in Rairangpur, alongside the approval of 15,326 new posts within the police department.
