Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has called on the public to help in making the state one of the top three in the country for cleanliness.

The chief minister said this while participating in a ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is Service) campaign near the Shree Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar today, September 25.

The event, which was also attended by the mayor, ministers, MLAs and members of the public, was organized by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.

Swachhta Hi Seva Marks Upadhyay’s 110th Birth Anniversary

This cleanliness campaign was launched to honour the 110th birth anniversary of BJP ideologue Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. Born in Mathura, Upadhyay was a key figure in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Majhi highlights tree plantation and waste management plans

In addition to the cleanliness drive, Chief Minister Majhi also planted trees near the Devipadhara pond as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ (A tree in the name of mother) program.

He highlighted Upadhyay’s vision and reiterated the state government’s commitment to providing basic amenities for all citizens.

Majhi also mentioned the government’s future plans to generate power by converting waste into coal.

“We all have to work to be in the top three places in the country in cleanliness,” he said.

Mass cleanliness drive and Swachhata pledge

A separate mass cleanliness drive, ‘Ek Din Ek Ghanta Ek Saath’ (One Day, One Hour, Together), was also successfully carried out at Kharabela Bhawan, a government building.

The program concluded with Principal Secretary Usha Padhee administering the Swachhata pledge, encouraging all participants to promote cleanliness in their own communities and homes.
