Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state Assembly on Monday that Odisha recorded over 80,000 cyberfraud complaints involving a staggering Rs 972.60 crore between June 2024 and December 2025.
Replying to a written question from BJD legislator Pratap Keshari Deb, Majhi said that 4,238 of these cases, involving Rs 260.61 crore, were registered at various police stations across the state during these 19 months.
The Chief Minister highlighted that police have made significant strides, arresting 868 people in connection with these cybercrimes. To date, authorities have recovered Rs 61.36 lakh and successfully frozen Rs 8.89 crore in related funds to prevent further siphoning of stolen assets.
In addition to traditional police reporting, victims have increasingly utilised the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP). Majhi revealed that 76,794 complaints were filed through this digital platform, involving a total of Rs 711.99 crore during the period under review.
The coordination between state authorities, financial institutions, and payment intermediaries has yielded some relief for victims. Out of the portal-based complaints, Rs 7.79 crore has been successfully returned to the rightful owners, while an additional Rs 101.24 crore has been blocked in suspicious bank accounts, he added.
