Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Thursday, stated that India was divided into pieces by the British and “some vested interests” for “their political ambitions.” He made these comments on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, observed annually on August 14.
In a post on X, Majhi said that today’s new India salutes the courage and determination of ‘our ancestors’ who faced atrocities in 1947.
Participating in a Tiranga Yatra in Cuttack, the CM also called upon all to take pride in participating in the ‘Har Ghar Triranga Abiyan’.
“Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is not just an ordinary day for us; it is an occasion to remember that dark chapter of our history when the British and some vested interests of India divided our motherland into pieces for their political aspirations,” Majhi said in the X post.
In the partition of 1947, lakhs of brothers and sisters were displaced, countless families were separated, and thousands of innocent people were killed solely on the basis of religion, he said.
Today’s India is being built from their courage, sacrifice and resolute determination. Today, on the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, I commemorate their struggle and sacrifice and pay heartfelt tributes to them.
“Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP government is not only remembering the past, but is also correcting the injustice of history,” the CM added.
“Article 370 has been removed from Kashmir, and the dream of ‘One Nation-One Constitution- One Flag’ has been fulfilled. Whether it is the border or the world, today India is not compromising its integrity and sovereignty; it is giving a strong response to the aggressors,” Majhi said.

The massive Tiranga Yatra (Tricolour Rally) in Cuttack was organised by the BJP’s Cuttack 42 Mouza Mandal. The event, part of the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, drew thousands of participants waving the national flag with pride.
The rally began from Jhinkiria and culminated at Chanduli. During the rally, the streets transformed into a sea of saffron, white and green colours. Participants, including Cuttack Sadar MLA Prakash Chandra Sethi, took part in both padyatra and a motorbike procession, drawing cheers from residents lining the route.
Based on the tricolour national flag, Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign is being held for three days across the country from August 12.
Today, I participated in the Tiranga Yatra rally held at the 42 Mouza locality of the Cuttack Sadar region. Main aim of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign is to give due respect to the national flag and create widespread awareness among people,” the CM said in another post on X.
Har Ghar Tiranga’ is a campaign that started under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage people to bring the Tiranga home and to hoist it to mark India’s independence.
It stemmed from the thought that our relationship with the national flag has always been more formal and institutional than personal. Bringing the flag home collectively as a nation thus became symbolic of not only an act of personal connection to the Tiranga but also an embodiment of our collective commitment to nation-building.
The idea behind the initiative was to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of the people and to promote awareness about the Indian National Flag.The Ministry of Culture is the nodal ministry for Har Ghar Tiranga.
