Armed miscreants allegedly looted cash and gold valued at approximately Rs 5 crore from a bank branch in Keonjhar district of Odisha on Monday, police said.
The heist occurred at around 2 PM.
According to police, five to six masked assailants arrived at the scene on motorcycles and initially entered the branch under the guise of customers.
Brandishing firearms, the attackers threatened both staff and customers, sparking panic throughout the premises. Before fleeing the bank at around 2.15 PM with the stolen gold and cash, the group damaged the bank’s CCTV system and locked those present inside the building.
Preliminary investigations suggest that amounting to around Rs 4 lakh and gold weighing about 3.7 kg were looted from the branch, a police officer said.
An investigation has been launched to identify and apprehend the suspects.
