The Odisha Vigilance Department on Tuesday arrested a former secretary of a cooperative society for his alleged involvement in the misappropriation of public funds totalling Rs 21.28 lakh, according to officials.
An official statement revealed that during the investigation, the department found the accused had directly collected loan repayment amounts from multiple borrower members of the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) in Banki.
“He misappropriated society funds by systematically manipulating official accounting registers and fabricating collection figures,” it said.
A case has been registered at the Cuttack Vigilance Police Station against the accused, and further investigation into the matter is currently underway, the statement added.
