A fire broke out in Odisha’s Jharsuguda railway station on Tuesday morning, triggered by a breakdown in the overhead equipment, according to official reports.

Train services along the route were briefly disrupted because of the blaze. However, authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported during the fire incident.

The overhead equipment (OHE) involved is the critical infrastructure of wires, insulators, and supports used to transmit high-voltage electricity to passing trains, an official explained.

The fire started at around 11:10 am and spread into several chambers of the station building before being contained, he said.

Emergency teams that rushed to the spot after receiving information doused the flames after nearly one-and-a-half hours of operations, the official stated.

People present at the Jharsuguda railway station at the time of the incident were safely evacuated, he added.
