The Odisha government on Thursday gave its approval to seven major industrial projects with a combined investment of Rs 55,783 crore, a move set to generate 14,507 jobs across the state.

These proposals were sanctioned during the High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who emphasised that these clearances are a strategic step toward building a “Samruddha Odisha” (Prosperous Odisha) by 2036 and enhancing the state’s self-reliance.

The approved ventures span a diverse range of sectors, including steel, semiconductors, rare earth manufacturing, automobiles, industrial gases, and power. These projects will be distributed across the districts of Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Keonjhar, and Khurda, reinforcing Odisha’s industrial footprint beyond traditional hubs.

Leading the investments in the steel sector is Saffron Resources Private Limited, a JSW Group Company, which plans to inject Rs 35,000 crore into a 6 MTPA steel plant in Dhenkanal. This project is anticipated to be a major employment driver, creating approximately 8,000 jobs in the region.

In the rare earth manufacturing category, Jindal Poly Films Limited received approval for a Rs 12,000 crore Titanium Dioxide Pigment manufacturing unit in Ganjam. This facility, with a capacity of 0.5 MTPA, is expected to provide livelihoods for 4,000 people.

The state’s automotive sector is also poised for growth, with a reputed firm committing Rs 1,697 crore to establish a manufacturing unit for tyres, carbon black, and zinc oxide in Ganjam. This project is slated to generate 685 employment opportunities, an official said.

Odisha’s high-tech manufacturing ambitions received a significant boost as Sancode Semi Private Limited will set up an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Testing (OSAT) unit in Khurda with an investment of Rs 1,649.98 crore. The facility will create 570 specialised jobs in the semiconductor space.

The industrial gases segment will see an expansion through Inox Air Products Private Limited, which proposes a Rs 1,300 crore Air Separation Unit in Dhenkanal. The plant will generate 180 jobs while meeting the rising industrial demand for high-quality gases.

In the ferroalloys sector, Ferro Alloys Corporation Limited will invest Rs 2,000 crore in Keonjhar. The project includes facilities for Ferro Manganese, Silico Manganese, and ore beneficiation, supported by a 100 MW Captive Power Plant, creating 772 jobs.

In the energy sector, GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited secured approval to set up a 350 MW thermal power plant in Dhenkanal at an investment of Rs 2,136.02 crore. This project will generate employment for 300 people.
