In a significant crackdown on narcotics, Odisha Police seized 1,250 kilograms of ganja and two kilograms of hashish oil, with a combined market value of Rs 1.25 crore, from separate places in Malkangiri district in two days.
During the enforcement drive, police busted an illegal hash oil manufacturing unit located within the Chitrakonda police station limits. Hashish oil, a potent narcotic extracted from cannabis plants, was being produced at the site for smuggling.
Various items used in the extraction process were confiscated, including two kilograms of hashish oil valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh.
Police stated that a case has been registered in this connection, and further investigations are underway to trace forward and backward linkages of the interstate network involved.
Over 30 kilograms of ganja were also recovered from the manufacturing unit, where the raw material was being processed into oil or semi-liquid forms to facilitate transport outside the state.
So far, 62 kg of Hash oil, approximately valued at Rs.7.5 crore, was seized in the last three months, the police said.
Malkangiri SP Vinod Patil said the police have launched a dedicated helpline number – 9438916972 – for citizens to share information regarding the manufacturing and smuggling of hashish oil. “We appeal to the public to cooperate and provide leads to help us eradicate this network,” Patil said.
In a separate case on Sunday, the police recovered another massive haul of ganja worth Rs 1 crore from the Bejingwada forest under the Kalimela police station area in Malkangiri district.
Fifty-six bags, containing a total of 1,250 kilograms of the contraband, were found hidden in the dense forest.
Patil said that efforts are being made to trace the source of the drugs and identify those involved. He said that in 2025, approximately 31,000 kg of ganja was recovered in the district.
