Odisha is bracing for another spell of heavy rainfall as a fresh low-pressure area is expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal around August 22, escalating fears of severe downpour across several parts of the state.
Under the system’s influence, heavy rainfall is expected to sweep across western, northern, and coastal Odisha, according to the latest bulletin from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.
As per latest weather forecast by the Met Centre, rainfall intensity is set to escalate starting tomorrow and will persist across large parts of Odisha till August 25.
For the next 24-hour, a yellow warning has been issued for four districts. Light to moderate showers are anticipated in isolated areas of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, and Balasore districts, with officials noting that these locations could experience scattered rainfall and some places could see brief spells of more intense rain.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has also issued yellow alert to cover 14 districts for tomorrow, urging residents in these regions to maintain vigilance and prepare for changing weather conditions.
Given that several parts of the state are already recovering from recent precipitation, the fresh rain spell risks worsening waterlogging and related infrastructural disruptions in vulnerable zones.
Consequently, inhabitants residing in low-lying and flood-prone belts have been instructed to exercise heightened caution as rainfall activity intensifies over the coming days.
