Odisha Police on Thursday busted an illegal arms-making manufacturing unit hidden inside a forest in Ganjam district and apprehended two people reportedly linked to the network, authorities said.
A police squad uncovered the facility near the Siarimala forest under the Buguda police station limits, confiscating two country-made guns, weapon parts and equipment used for manufacturing firearms, they said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Subash Gamang, 45, and Bulu Dalabehera, 50, both residing in Jhadapalli village within the Gangapur police station area, according to police.
Bhanjanagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Deepak Kumar Mishra stated that the duo was stopped during late-night patrol duty on Wednesday along the Jholori-Pangidi State Highway-33, where officers recovered two guns from them.

Acting on credible intelligence, the Buguda Police Station team led by SI Niladri Reddy intercepted two persons on SH-33 (Jholori-Pangidi) on the night of 05/06.08.2026 and recovered two illegal SBML firearms. Subsequent interrogation revealed an illegal firearms manufacturing unit near the Siarimala Forest foothills. Inspector Sitanshu Mandhata and his team raided the site, seizing manufacturing machinery, tools, and components.
In this connection, Buguda PS Case No. 381, dated 06.08.2026, under the Arms Act has been registered. Both accused have been arrested and forwarded to the court,โ SP Ganjam informed in a post from its X handle.
โDuring questioning, the suspects revealed that they were running an unauthorized firearm assembly point near the base of Siarimala forest. Officers then raided the location and seized various machinery, implements, and parts designated for gun making,โ he explained.
Authorities suspect the duo had been running the covert facility over the last few years.
โWe are currently tracing their distribution network, and work is ongoing to pinpoint the buyers who acquired these weapons,โ Mishra added.
