Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall, driven by an active low-pressure system, continued to lash several parts of Odisha, disrupting daily life, particularly in northern and western districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts valid until 8.30 AM on Tuesday, warning of extremely heavy rainfall.
The weather department has also cautioned that the deluge could lead to severe waterlogging, flash floods, and significant disruptions to vehicular traffic in vulnerable areas.
An orange alert for very heavy rain is also in place for six districts, including Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, and Mayurbhanj. The state’s remaining 22 districts have been placed under a yellow warning, indicating a high likelihood of heavy rainfall at several isolated areas.
While coastal regions may see marginal improvements in weather conditions by Tuesday, heavy rainfall is still anticipated across the area. However, western Odisha, particularly Bargarh, remains a major concern, with an orange alert due to the threat of intense downpours. As many as 17 districts have also been placed under yellow warning.
The persistent rainfall has heightened risks of localized flooding, urban waterlogging, and surging water levels in rivers and local tributaries.
Emergency response teams and local administrations remain on high alert, maintaining round-the-clock surveillance over high-risk regions as further precipitation is expected.
