India secured a commanding 337-run victory in the second Test, dismissing England for 271 in their second innings on the final day.
With this decisive win, India’s inaugural Test triumph at Edgbaston, Shubman Gill and co has levelled the five-match series 1-1.
Resuming the day at 72 for 3 wickets, England’s innings crumbled to 153 for 6 wickets by lunch, as Indian bowlers maintained relentless pressure.
The hosts were eventually bowled out in the second session, falling well short of India’s formidable 608-run target.
Pacer Akash Deep was instrumental, claiming his maiden Test five-wicket haul for 6/99. He struck twice early in a rain-delayed morning session, unsettling England’s batting lineup.
After lunch, Deep delivered the crucial blow, Jamie Smith (88), who was the lone English batter to offer significant resistance amidst an otherwise lackluster performance. He then sealed the victory by taking the final wicket of Brydon Carse (38).
The third Test is scheduled to commence in London on July 10.
