Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday stated that an “industrial revolution” has begun in the state since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumed power, attracting investments totalling a massive Rs 17 lakh crore.
Addressing the inaugural session of ‘Samruddha Odisha-2036’ conclave organised by the Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ltd (UCCIL) in Bhubaneswar, Majhi criticised the previous administration for lacking the “foresight or political willpower” to leverage the state’s vast natural resources.
“Odisha is rich in natural resources, and we have all the elements required to set up industries. But, we had not been able to progress well in industrial and infrastructure development during the last 80 years,” Majhi said, claiming that the 24 years of stable governance under the BJD failed to deliver an industrial revolution, which he called a “betrayal for the state.”

“They (the BJD govt) were not able to do it, may be due to lack of foresight or political will power. I feel it is a betrayal for the state,” Majhi said.
“After coming to power, an industrial revolution started in the state. The BJP government has organised Utkarsh Odisha, investor road shows in Singapore and several places in India and signed MoUs worth Rs 17 lakh crore,” the CM asserted.
Over 260 projects worth Rs 5.60 lakh crore have been approved, expected to create 3.6 lakh employment opportunities, Majhi said.
Foundation stones have been laid for 84 industries with an investment of Rs 2 lakh crore, promising jobs for 1.64 lakh people.
“To improve ease of doing business, we have reformed 18 of the 23 categories,” CM Majhi said.
Highlighting infrastructural support for industry, Majhi noted the state has established a single-window system for approvals and created a 1.25 lakh acres land bank, the chief minister said.
Two semi-conductor units have also been set up in Odisha along with ‘big IT companies’, he noted.
Majhi said efforts were underway to make Bhubaneswar a technology hub of the state and the eastern region.
Speaking at the same conclave, Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain reinforced the government’s ambitious vision, stating the administration aims to make Odisha a $500 billion economy by 2036 (Samruddha Odisha-2036). The conclave is scheduled to conclude on Wednesday.
