In a transformative for Odisha’s economic trajectory, JSW Steel has formally initiated the development of its ambitious 13.2 MTPA integrated steel plant in Paradip. The mega-scale project, fuelled by a massive capital injection of approximately Rs 65,000 crore, stands out as one of the most monumental industrial investments ever recorded in the state’s history.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, May 27, marking a pivotal turning point for JSW Steel’s long-range expansion blueprint and cementing Odisha’s evolving reputation as a dominant manufacturing force.
The state-of-the-art integrated steel complex will be developed in successive phases, sprawling across an expanse of nearly 2,950 acres in Paradip. Upon completion, the facility’s projected output of 13.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) will establish it as one of the premier steel manufacturing nerve centres in India.
The coastal geography of Paradip provides vital strategic benefits, such as robust port connectivity, seamless proximity to essential raw materials, and highly efficient logistics corridors. These logistical assets are anticipated to significantly optimize domestic supply operations while simultaneously boosting global export capabilities.
The commencement ceremony was attended by Mohan Charan Majhi along with senior officials of the Odisha government and top JSW Group executives, including Sajjan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director of JSW Group.
Addressing the gathering, the JSW Group leadership praised Odisha’s forward-thinking industrial frameworks, world-class infrastructure assets, and accelerating economic capabilities as the primary drivers behind their investment decision.
According to the company, the Paradeep project aligns with India’s broader industrial growth vision under Mission Purvodaya, which aims to unlock the economic and industrial potential of eastern India.
The steel manufacturing heavyweight further noted that the upcoming facility will do much more than expand production metrics; it is poised to create extensive job opportunities, upgrade local infrastructure networks, and foster a thriving ecosystem for ancillary businesses throughout the region.
JSW Steel officials emphasized that the project is a critical pillar of the company’s future growth strategy. The integrated infrastructure, port access, and logistics network in Paradeep are expected to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the company’s ability to cater to global markets.
The company also noted that Odisha remains central to JSW Steel’s long-term expansion plans. Once completed, the Paradeep plant is expected to further establish Odisha as one of India’s leading steel and industrial destinations.
