Launching a sharp attack on the BJP-led government in Odisha, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday said that the state’s law and order situation has reached a “dreadful” condition.

Patnaik, who previously served as the state’s Chief Minister for five consecutive terms, made these remarks while responding to a media query regarding recent incidents of mob lynching reported across various parts of Odisha.

“I think you’ve heard me saying time and time again that the law and order situation under this government is in a dreadful state. Nowhere in our country, in the whole of India, you get such reports of what is happening on law and order and violence, except in Odisha,” Patnaik told reporters outside the Odisha Assembly.

The BJP was quick to dismiss the criticism, countering that the law and order situation in Odisha has actually seen significant improvement over the last two years under their governance, citing enhanced policing, quicker response times, and more rigorous action against criminal elements.

“It is unfortunate that Naveen Patnaik is levelling false allegations for personal benefit, ignoring the visible improvements on the ground,” said state BJP spokesperson Anil Biswal.

“The BJP government remains committed to ensuring peace, safety, and justice for every resident of Odisha,” he said.
