In a significant year-end administrative reshuffle, the Odisha government announced on Tuesday the promotion of 14 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, including Inspector General Shyni S, to the additional DGP rank, as per a notification.
According to the notification issued by the General Administration and Public Grievances Department, these changes will officially take effect on January 1, 2026.
Shyni S, currently the head of the Crime Against Women and Children Wing (CAW&CW), will move to the rank of ADG.
Soorya Thankappan—presently on central deputation—has been granted to avail proforma promotion to the rank of ADG of police.
Similarly, Satyajit Naik and Umashankar Dash have been promoted to Inspector General of Police (IGP). Prakash R, currently on central deputation, also received a proforma promotion to the IGP rank.
The government also promoted Madkar Sandeep Sampat and Sudhanshu Sekhar Mishra (on central deputation) to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, the notification said.
The notification further noted that several other IPS and IAS officers received promotions ahead of the New Year.
To ensure continuity in operations, the government has directed all promoted officers to remain in their current postings until further orders are issued.
