A tragic road accident on National Highway 16 claimed the lives of a 35-year-old man and his minor daughter in Odisha’s Balasore district, police said on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Manoj Das and his seven-year-old daughter, Saishriti. Both were residents of Rahania village under the Bhandaripokhari police station limits.
The fatal incident occurred near Uttareswar on NH-16 while the father-daughter duo was traveling on a motorcycle back to their native village. A speeding truck rammed into their two-wheeler, inflicting fatal injuries.
Following the collision, locals immediately intercepted the truck, caught hold of the driver, and subsequently handed him over to the local police.
Police officials sent the victims to the Soro hospital. However, doctors at the facility declared both of them dead on arrival.
Authorities have officially registered a case regarding the accident. Both the motorcycle and the killer truck have been seized as part of the ongoing investigation, police added.
