BJD president and former chief minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik was discharged on Monday from a private hospital in Mumbai, where he had undergone spine surgery for cervical arthritis, a leader from the regional party said.
Patnaik, who serves as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Odisha Assembly, underwent the medical procedure on June 22 at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. He was discharged after making a full recovery from Cervical Arthritis surgery.
In a post from is official X handle, Patnaik, a five-time former Odisha CM, expressed his gratitude stating, “I would like to thank the entire medical team of @KDAHMumbai and @GangaWebteam for providing excellent medical service and taking great care of me pre-surgery and post-surgery. Heartfelt thanks to everyone from #Odisha and outside for their wishes and prayers for my health. Jai Jagannatha.”
Patnaik’s X post included a picture and videos showing him walking in the hospital corridor and shaking hands with doctors and other hospital staff.

BJD leader Santrupt Mishra confirmed that Patnaik was discharged on Monday. “The LoP was discharged from hospital on Monday. He will stay in Mumbai for now. Doctors will suggest when he can return to Odisha,” Mishra said.
Following Patnaik’s surgery, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge were among many prominent figures who extended their wishes for his fast recovery.
A significant number of BJD leaders and party workers in Odisha also gathered at various temples to offer prayers for his successful surgery.
During Patnaik’s absence, a 15-member BJD committee, led by vice-president Debi Mishra, has been overseeing the party’s affairs.
