A 24-year-old NEET aspirant from Odisha was found dead in his hostel room in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Rajasthan’s Kota on Saturday, informed police.
The deceased student was identified as Roshan Kumar Patro (24), a resident of Abhayapur in the Ganjam district of Odisha.
He had been preparing for the NEET exam at a local coaching institute and was residing at a hostel in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar.
The student was found dead in suspicious circumstances around noon on Saturday, according to Jawahar Nagar police station Circle Inspector, Ramlaxman. Roshan was found lying on his bed with vomit around his mouth.
Though he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, the doctors declared him dead after examination, the officer said.
The FSL team, meanwhile, visited the room where the student’s body was found and collected necessary evidence to aid the ongoing investigation.
The exact reason behind the death of the student is yet to be ascertained, the officer said.
The officer added that the body has been kept in the mortuary for the post-mortem, which will be conducted after the arrival of his family members, who have been notified of his passing.
Roshan had come in Kota in 2025 and lived in room 407 on the fourth floor of the hostel, while his cousin was staying in a separate room on the fifth floor of the same hostel, police said.
Roshan’s cousin went to check on him when he did not go for lunch at noon. After getting no response to repeated calls and knocks, the cousin informed the warden. The warden unlocked the room with a spare key and discovered Roshan lying unresponsive on the bed, police further detailed.
“The cause of death will become clear only after the post-mortem report and further inquiry into the matter,” the circle inspector said.
