A 19-year-old Agniveer trainee from Uttar Pradesh reportedly died by suicide on the INS Chilka naval base in Odisha’s Khurda district, police said on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Kartik Yadav, a resident of the Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh. According to a police officer, Yadav was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in a room on the campus on Wednesday.
Upon the discovery, colleagues and campus staff immediately brought him down and rushed him to the on-site medical facility. However, medical personnel declared him dead on arrival, the officer stated.
“We have registered an unnatural death case and started an investigation. The body was handed over to his family after conducting a post-mortem examination,” the officer said.
Preliminary findings suggest that Yadav took his own life during a period when other trainees were occupied with their scheduled duties, leaving him alone in the room.
