Ahead of the upcoming Budget session, Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy on Monday convened an all-party meeting on Monday to ensure the smooth conduct of House proceedings. During the session, she called for active cooperation from both the ruling and opposition parties to maintain decorum and productivity.

The Budget session of the Odisha Assembly is set to begin on Tuesday and will run until April 8, featuring a scheduled recess from February 25 to March 8.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CM K V Singh Deo, BJD deputy leader in the House Prasanna Acharya, and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Rama Chandra Kadam were among those who attended the meeting held in Bhubaneswar on the assembly premises.

Speaker Padhy informed reporters that Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will deliver the opening address on Tuesday. This will be followed by a two-day discussion on the motion of thanks, scheduled for February 18 and 19.

The state’s annual Budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year is slated for presentation on February 20, with general discussions following on February 23 and 24. The Speaker further noted that the Appropriation Bill is expected to be tabled on March 31.

Following the mid-session recess, department-related standing committees will present their reports before the House on March 9. Padhy also detailed the session’s schedule, noting that three days each have been allocated for government business and private members’ business.

BJD chief whip Pramila Mallik, who also attended the meeting, said, “We will raise several issues, including those related to the farmers, in the House as they are facing a lot of hardship in selling their paddy produce.” She further said that the party would finalise its specific strategies during a BJD legislature party meeting later in the day.

Kadam said the Congress has requested the Speaker to remain impartial. The party’s strategy for the session would be chalked out at the CLP meeting scheduled to be held here this evening, he added.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling, after taking part in the meeting, said the meeting focused on the smooth running of the House.

“We hope all members will cooperate to run the House smoothly,” he told reporters.
