Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling on Wednesday visited Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati at Lok Bhavan to discuss the planned agenda for the Odisha Assembly’s special session, which is set to take place on Thursday, April 30.
During the meeting, Mahaling provided the Governor with an overview of the objectives and the vital importance of the upcoming special session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
“The session has been organized to examine women’s involvement in the Indian democratic framework, specifically aimed at amplifying their influence in leadership and policy-making. The Minister briefed the Governor on the primary subjects and debates intended for the House,” according to official reports.
Governor Kambhampati praised the move and voiced his expectation that the upcoming discussions would be both significant and productive. He further stressed the necessity of increasing the representation of women within various democratic structures.
The Governor offered his best wishes for the seamless execution and eventual success of the special session.
Commissioner of Police Suresh Dev Datta Singh, meanwhile, accompanied by high-ranking officials, inspected the security protocols at the Assembly building in preparation for the special sitting.
Speaking to media persons, the Police Commissioner noted that approximately 30 platoons have been designated for duty, with nearly 100 senior-level officers assigned to manage the operations.
He further stated that 11 Quick Response Teams had been positioned, including seven inside the Assembly premises and four in the surrounding outer zones.
It is noteworthy that the special session has been called for April 30 to address female representation in the nation’s democracy, surfacing amidst a heated political dispute following the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, along with the Biju Janata Dal and the Indian National Congress, are anticipated to engage in a vigorous debate regarding ‘Participation of Women in Indian Democracy’ during this one-day event of the 17th Odisha Assembly.
