Odisha’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lodged a police complaint on Saturday against Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sulata Deo, accusing her of circulating objectionable content on social media targeting party national president Nitin Nabin.
A BJP delegation, led by party spokesperson Satarupa Mishra, submitted the complaint at the Capital police station in Bhubaneswar, demanding immediate legal action against Deo.
“We have filed a complaint against Sulata Deo for allegedly disrespecting the Flag Code of India. She degraded our party’s national president Nitin Nabin on social media and crossed all ethical boundaries through the deceptive use of AI technology. We demand strict action against her misconduct and abusive language,” Mishra told reporters.
According to the BJP’s complaint, Deo allegedly shared a digitally generated AI image depicting Nabin holding the Indian national flag upside down during an Independence Day celebration.
Deo was not available for comment on the allegations.
The BJP alleged that the manipulated image was shared with the deliberate intent to malign and tarnish the reputation of its national president.
Deo, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2022, was named the BJD’s deputy leader and chief whip in the Upper House in April.
