The election process for the selection of the new president of Odisha BJP is scheduled to be held on July 8, according to the poll schedule announced by the saffron party on Friday.

The formal notification for the election of the Odisha BJP president will be issued on July 6, said the statement issued by Balasore MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi, the party’s state election officer.

The nominations will be accepted on July 7, while the voting for the post of state president will be held on July 8, if required, it said.

The names of the new state president and central council member will be declared on July 8 itself, it added.

“Under the direction of Dr. K. Laxman, the National Election Officer of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the process for the election of the upcoming State President and National Members of the party has begun. The notification will be published on the 6th, nominations will take place on the 7th, and the election along with the results will be announced on the 8th,” informed BJP’s state General Secretary and Co-Election Officer, Yatin Mohanty.

The organisational election was put on hold due to the stampede during the Rath Yatra festival in Puri.

Party insiders said that several senior leaders are in the race for the president’s post, with incumbent Manmohan Samal also looking for another term.
