In a significant move to boost the industrial and rural economy of Western Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced the development of a new sugar mill and a textile park in Balangir.
Addressing the state-level celebration of National Panchayati Raj Day, the Chief Minister underscored that the district is on the cusp of a major economic transformation.
During the event, CM Majhi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 304 projects, representing a total investment of Rs 580 crore. The infrastructure package includes the establishment of a new nursing college at the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital.
Drawing from his personal experience as a former Sarpanch, CM Majhi highlighted the vital role of Panchayats, describing them as the essential backbone of the nation’s democratic framework.
“Our government is committed to ensuring that the benefits of ‘Viksit Bharat’ reach the last person in the village,” he said.
To further this commitment, he launched the Panchayati Raj Samikshya Portal, an initiative designed to improve transparency and accountability in rural governance.
The Chief Minister also distributed work orders to more than 50,000 beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana and confirmed that Odisha is set to receive 10 lakh additional homes through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Additionally, he reaffirmed the state’s objective to achieve universal piped water every household by March 2027, backed by a substantial investment of Rs 54,000 crore.
The CM also launched two online portals, as part of the state government’s efforts to make the Panchayati Raj system transparent and people-oriented.
Majhi launched the ‘e-Panchayat Sabha (district council)’ portal and the ‘Panchayati Raj Survey’ portal at Bolangir on the occasion.
The event featured addresses from Deputy CM KV Singh Deo and Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Nayak, both of whom drew attention to the record-breaking Rs 44,309 crore budget allocated by the state government for rural development in the current fiscal year.
