Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Sunday that around 800 schools across the state are set to be transformed into model educational centres under a flagship central initiative.

These schools will be upgraded with state-of-the-art infrastructure, digital learning tools, smart classrooms, and innovative teaching methods under the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme, according to the Chief Minister.

The CM announced this while speaking during an event at Kushaleswar Government High School in Keonjhar district.

Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi highlighted the state’s commitment to evolving the primary and secondary education landscape.

Hailing the school’s education system, the Majhi noted that the institution successfully balances academic excellence with the teaching of ethics, discipline, and core values.

In an inspiring message to the students, Majhi emphasised that education should be viewed as a foundation for character building and life skills rather than a mere vehicle for employment.

“In today’s competitive era, along with academic knowledge, skills, creativity and new ideas are essential,” the chief minister said.

Furthermore, Majhi revealed that the state has allocated a substantial budget of over Rs 31,997 crore for the School and Mass Education Department for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

Highlighting the focus on human resources, he stated that 20,000 teachers have been recruited in the past 18 months, with the administration now moving to appoint an additional 45,000 educators.

Efforts are also underway to set up Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Primary Schools in every panchayat, he said.

Taking his X account, the CM wrote, “Today, I participated in the ‘Platinum Jubilee’ celebration of PM Shri Kusaleshwar Government High School. On this memorable occasion, my heartfelt best wishes to all the teachers, parents, alumni, and current students of the school. The decades-long contribution of this institution in the field of education is unparalleled. May this institution continue to scale new heights of success in the coming days and further illuminate society with the light of knowledge—this is my earnest wish.”
