In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for conservation amidst rising global oil prices and Middle East tension, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Wednesday that he is downsizing the number of vehicles used in his official convoy.

According to an official statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Majhi has ordered to reduce the fleet of vehicles used for his personal security by 50 per cent.

Furthermore, he encouraged the public to minimise their reliance on private cars, choose public transportation whenever possible, and limit their travel to essential purposes only.

This move follows a recent appeal by Prime Minister Modi, who expressed concerns over a potential global oil shortage linked to the West Asia conflict and urged the nation to lower fuel consumption, specifically petrol.

The Chief Minister also advised citizens to avoid purchasing gold and refrain from non-essential international travel.

Officials, however, did not disclose the exact number of vehicles in the chief minister’s convoy, citing security reasons.

“In the context of the oil crisis triggered by the current situation in West Asia, the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri
@MohanMOdisha
has welcomed the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s call for austerity. Prioritizing the interests of the nation, the Hon’ble Chief Minister has immediately halved the number of vehicles in his personal security cavalcade while offering some important advice to the people of the state.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister’s advice to the people of the state:

✅ Use of public transport: Reduce the use of personal vehicles and opt for public transport to a greater extent.
✅ Fuel conservation: Use vehicles only where unavoidable and prevent unnecessary wastage of fuel.
✅ Financial restraint: Keeping the current situation in mind, refrain from purchasing gold at this time and avoid unnecessary foreign travel.

In adverse circumstances, it is collective resolve and personal discipline that can keep the nation’s prosperity intact, and the Hon’ble Chief Minister has firmly urged that this ideal of restraint must be reflected from the top,” CM Majhi said in a post on X.
