Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Women and Child Development, Pravati Parida, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday ahead of the upcoming release of the fifth instalment of the Subhadra scheme, the state government’s flagship women empowerment initiative.
According to an official statement, Parida briefed the Prime Minister on the preparations for disbursing the fifth instalment, which is scheduled to be released on August 28 from Odisha’s Nayagada, to mark the occasion of Rakhi Purnima.
The latest instalment will provide Rs 5,000 directly to each eligible beneficiary via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Under the latest arrangements, 1,03,26,162 eligible women beneficiaries are slated to receive the funds, representing a total financial distribution of over Rs 5,160 crore.
PM Modi was also updated on the measures taken by the state government to guarantee a seamless and timely transfer of financial aid. Key operational priorities have included beneficiary verification, e-KYC updates, bank account linkings, NPCI mapping, and related banking logistics to eliminate payout delays.
The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the Prime Minister about the overall importance of the fifth instalment in advancing the state’s drive toward the economic empowerment and financial inclusion of women.
The flagship program was originally launched by PM Modi in Bhubaneswar on September 17, 2024.
The scheme aims to provide a total financial assistance package of Rs 50,000 to eligible women over five years. Beneficiaries receive Rs 10,000 annually, distributed in two equal instalments of Rs 5,000 each via direct bank transfers.
“The fifth instalment marks another significant milestone in the implementation of SUBHADRA, reinforcing the State Government’s efforts towards strengthening women’s economic independence and ensuring that the benefits of welfare programmes reach eligible women in a transparent and efficient manner,” claimed the state government.
