Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania on Thursday instructed all district Superintendents of Police to establish tight security measures, paying particular attention to designated sensitive places on the occasion of the Muharram festival on June 26.
DGP Khurania issued these orders during a virtual meeting with the district SPs, emphasizing that every possible measure must be taken to maintain law and order across the state throughout the festival.
The DGP mandated an increase in police patrols in every district and ordered the deployment of additional forces at sensitive locations following thorough operational briefings. He noted that specialised security plans must be enforced in vulnerable regions, drawing lessons from previous occurrences to ensure heightened vigilance.
Additionally, the DGP urged the SPs to track potential trouble-makers and keep a close watch on social media platforms to thwart the spread of fake news. Cyber patrolling should operate round the clock on social media platforms.
He further instructed SPs to pursue rigorous legal measures against anyone caught circulating false reports or provocative content.
Furthermore, the DGP emphasised the importance of collaborating with neighborhood peace councils and local community representatives to encourage harmony and teamwork, ensuring the festival passes without incident.
