The Odisha government on Tuesday named advocate Biraja Shankar Mishra as a member of the state human rights commission, according to an official notification.
The appointment, made under Section 22(1) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, will take effect from the date Mishra assumes charge.
The rights body had been operating under chairperson Justice Satrughana Pujahari, with Chitta Ranjan Mohapatra serving as its sole member.
Data from the OHRC’s official website shows that 6,240 cases were currently being considered by the commission, with 71 cases resolved during August. In 2026, the OHRC registered 3,407 new cases.
