The Odisha government is working on new legislation aimed at simplifying land administration and resolving long-standing property issues, with the bill likely to be tabled in the upcoming budget session of the assembly, a state minister said on Monday.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari stated that the proposed “Odisha Government Land Management Bill” is designed to replace outdated laws enacted nearly forty to fifty years ago.
Speaking to reporters, Pujari said, “The draft of the new legislation is ready and was discussed by experts on Monday.”
The Minister explained that the proposed measure seeks to eliminate legal ambiguities, accelerate land settlement procedures, and transform the current system into one that is more transparent, efficient, and people-friendly.
Highlighting the primary features of the Bill, the minister said that multiple existing revenue laws will be consolidated into a single, unified Act to ensure that land-related regulations are easier to interpret and enforce.
Addressing the specific complexities of land issues in Puri, Pujari said that these cases are being examined to settle historical disputes and establish mechanisms to prevent future encroachments.
