In a notable development, two Odisha-cadre IAS officers, Saamarth Verma (2011 batch) and his wife, Swadha Dev Singh (2014 batch), have been approved for appointments on Central deputation.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoP&T) issued letters to Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja on Monday, directing that both officers be relieved within three weeks to assume their new roles at the Centre.

“I am directed to convey that the Competent Authority has approved the appointment of Shri Samarth Verma, IAS (OD: 2011) as Director in the M/O Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Delhi under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of five years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier. He may kindly be relieved of his duties immediately with instructions to take up his new assignment in the M/O Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Delhi,” read the letter issued by the Department of Personnel and Training.

“I am directed to convey that the Competent Authority has approved the appointment of Ms. Swadha Dev Singh, IAS (OD: 2014) to the post of Director of Census Operations /Director of Citizen Registration (Deputy Secretary level) in the O/o RGI (Hqrs.), New Delhi under the Central Staffing Scheme with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post for a period upto 31.12.2025 which is further extendable up to admissible tenure under the Central Staffing Scheme or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier. She may be relieved of her duties immediately with the directions to join her new assignment,” the department said in a separate letter.

“It may be noted that as per ACC’s directions conveyed in DoP&T’s Circular No. 3/4/2004-EO(MM-I) dated 17th August, 2005, an officer should join the post within three weeks from the date of issue of DOP&T’s appointment order, failing which the process of debarment from the Central Staffing Scheme shall be initiated,” the letters added.
